Global issues : enjeux environnementaux et sociaux

Global issues encompass environmental and social challenges. Climate change, driven by $CO_2$ emissions, causes global warming and rising sea levels ( $h$ ). Sustainability is the key solution, requiring us to manage resources wisely. Socially, poverty and inequality remain pressing global problems. By reducing our personal carbon footprint, we contribute to a healthier planet. Protecting the environment and ensuring human rights are responsibilities for everyone. Actions taken today influence the world of tomorrow.

Basic knowledge of environmental vocabulary (pollution, recycling, energy).

Understanding of modal verbs for advice (should, must, have to).

Global warming is linked to an increase in $CO_2$ levels.

Plastic pollution affects marine life.

Access to education is a fundamental right.

Wealth distribution is unequal globally.

Meeting current needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet theirs.

Using renewable energy like solar panels to reduce $CO_2$ emissions.

The total amount of greenhouse gases (calculated as $CO_2$ equivalent) generated by our actions.

Reducing travel and meat consumption decreases your footprint.

The gradual increase in the overall temperature of the Earth's atmosphere.

The melting of polar ice caps leads to a rise in sea level ( $h$ ).

Reducing individual waste in a school setting.

Étape 1 : Audit the amount of waste produced in one week (measured in $kg$ ).

Étape 2 : Implement a recycling program and reduce single-use plastic by $50\%$ ( $0.5$ fraction).

Résultat : Decrease in environmental impact and improvement in local ecology.

Imagine the Earth wearing a thick winter coat (gases) that traps heat inside, just like a greenhouse for plants.

Think of it as a bank account: if you spend more than you earn, you go bankrupt. Nature needs us to spend only the 'interest', not the capital.

Confusing 'Global Warming' with 'Climate Change'.

Global warming is the specific rise in temperature; climate change is the broader range of effects (storms, drought, sea-level rise).

Using 'pollution' as a countable noun (e.g., 'many pollutions').

Pollution is an uncountable noun. Use 'types of pollution' or 'high levels of pollution' instead.

What does $CO_2$ stand for in the context of global warming?

Define the Carbon Footprint.

What is the primary goal of sustainability?

Why is the melting of ice caps a critical issue?

Is 'pollution' countable or uncountable?

Digital citizenship requires acting responsibly in virtual spaces. Users must manage their digital footprint carefully, as online actions have real-wo...
